The origins of Reiki are believed to be based in ancient Tibet. Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese scholar, rediscovered Reiki in the 1800s.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word literally translated to universal-energy. During a typical treatment clothing remains on and the practitioner's focus is on finely tuning the flow of life energy through the body. Though only gentle hand pressure is used Reiki is considered very powerful and effective by those who have used it and received it as therapy. Reiki is appropriate for all types of physical ailments. Often chronic problems that have been resistant to other treatments melt away with Reiki sessions. Because it is so gentle it can be woven in with other massage therapies.
